If you have a hobby to sew, this stretch of shops east of Nippori Station where are selling buttons, brocade, kimono fabric scraps will hit you like a proverbial bolt!
Nippori is on the JR Yamanote Line. The main street of Fabric Town is Nippori Chuo Dori and is a few minutes to walk from the East exit (from the train, follow signs to the North Exit then the East Exit). Turn right out of the station and work your way ahead and diagonally towards the left and you will hit Fabric Street. The street starts opposite of a bus terminal and then look for the big Fabric Town pennants.
Yes, Fabric Town is exactly what it sounds like! A whole area of Tokyo which is crammed full of fabric and sewing shops! What you’ll find is heaven for the people of sewing hobby! From huge multi-storey fabric shops to tiny side street independents, plus shops full of buttons, ribbons and notions, not to mention secondhand kimonos and vintage clothing, there probably isn’t anything you can’t find here if you look hard enough.
The most difficult part will always be deciding what to leave behind. There are actually not only to find out sewing stuffs, there are also some handmade accessories shops, shoes shops and clothes shops where are really cheap (even some things are trade price)!
You can also come to the shop where is for dance clothes which actually you can use as for concerts also. If you get tired for shopping, then you can easy to find out a lot of Asian restaurants or cafes in this area. Interesting? Please check it out!
