If you are around Yokohama area, there is a nice to place for visiting! The temple is amazing view of garden and feeling so relax with a lot of greens and mountain. Shomyoji is a temple located in southern Yokohama (Kanazawa-Bunko station where is only 15min from Yokohama station by train) with a superb garden that has been somewhat hidden from the world since its inception in 1260.
Here is off the beaten path let’s say. You will find far less visitors here than you’d find at temples in nearby Kamakura. It’s popular with local artists who are mostly over 60 years old. Many of the temples structures were rebuilt after the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake but looks still like old time and amazing color of atmosphere.
The temples distance from Kamakura meant that it had a relatively peaceful history actually. As a result of its peaceful history, the temple was able to collect and preserve a large collection of ancient art and books. These are housed beside the temple in the Kanazawa Bunko museum and library. The museum explains the history of the temple in great deal in Japanese. The place is really quiet and feel definitely nature garden. There is a big red old style bridge in the center of the garden made there really old time of Japan. The yard of the temple is open and free of charge. Interesting? Please check it out!
