Lake Ashino (normaly people call this lake “Ashino-ko”) is an alpine lake located near the town of Hakone and one of the best spot to see Mt.Fuji. Because it was used be the volcano, there are many hot springs. Motohakone, Gora, Hakoneyumoto, and Owakudani are well known as hot spring town. Originally stocked with largemouth bass in 19th century, lake has been hosting various game fish. So you can also enjoy fishing here!

Lake Ashino is 723m above sea level, 21.1km around, and 7.1km2. The same type of dam-up lake, Chuzen-ji Lake in Nikko, sits much higher (1269m above sea level) and is 1.6 times larger than Lake Ashino. Because of easy access from Tokyo, her great beauty, and breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, the lakeside of Ashino is well developed and has become one of Japan’s most popular hot springs resort areas. There are many hiking courses which lead hikers to the great view of Mt. Fuji. You don’t need to hike some of the view spots. You can just reach there by car or ropeway to the top of Mt. Hakone.

The place is sightseeing spot, so you can come over after Hakone hot spring or shopping in outlet mall. The lake has red torii gate which stands out in the water off that point, and a small stone causeway leads out to it. This makes us mysterious feeling! Lake Ashino is located Kanagawa prefecture and about 1hour and half by fast train from Shinjuku station. You can definetely go and coming back even in one day! Interesting? Please check it out!
