Do you know traditional Kaminari-Okoshi? As you have already known, Asakusa is one of the landmarks of the Tokyo.
There is the most famous place there which is generally called “Kaminari-Mon” of Senso-ji Temple, Asakusa (formal name is “FuRaijin-Mon”). There are windgod and thundergod dwell in the gate and protect this temple.
Kaminari-Okoshi’s name is actually coming from this temple and this is kind of a cake.
It’s actually a rice crispy cake. Kaminari-Okoshi has been loved for a long time,because “Okoshi” means “to establish” a family or a name. It was definitely considered as a good-luck item.
Tokiwa-do Kaminari-Okoshi honpo was established Asakusa where had been since approximately 200 years ago, late Edo period. The cake is cooked in a factory, but owner shows to make “Kaminari-Okoshi” at store and communicate people every Saturday and Sunday. Also, there are some times we can have an experience to make Kaminari-Okoshi by ourselves! That’s going to be a very special souvenir surely!
