Are you looking for a nice place for your holiday? There is very mysterious Island not so much far from central Tokyo (only about 2 hours by car)!

Okinoshima Islands a small uninhabited island 1km in circumference located to the south of Tateyama Bay. Entirely covered in natural forest, the island has many coastal animals and plants living on it. The coral found in the beautiful sea around the island is a t the world’s northern coral limit. Full lineups of natural participation activities like beach combing have gained popularity recently, not only with tourists but also students. Such activities are found in educational tours at elementary and junior high schools.

Less than a century ago, Okinoshima Island really was an island floating at the edge of the Bay. The sandbar first emerged with the upheavals of the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. Eventually it became a permanent feature of the landscape. The sea around Okinoshima Island is very clear. The entryway to the sandbar from the road isn’t especially alluring but don’t be put off. Walk right past them and look out towards Okinoshima Island or the water on either side of you.

You’ll be stepping into a hidden place! You’ll find layers of geological time you can literally touch, with dense overgrowths of native vegetation in every hue of green. Beyond, in the offing, at only 5 meters deep, lies an underwater wilderness, the world’s northernmost coral reefs, nurtured by the warm waters of the Kuroshio Current that washes along Tateyama’s western end.  In Okinoshima Island, you can find Ugamyozin shrine. In the middle of Okinoshima, there is a composting toilet for everyone to use. So don’t worry! Okinoshima Island has very beautiful nature, so you will never get bored here! I guess, you can be there in summer is much more comfortable than other seasons! Interesting? Please check it out!
