Do you know there is the desert island where you can get to by ferry for only 10 minutes from Yokosuka? Sarushima is the biggest deserted island in Tokyo bay and nest of nature.
Sarushima had been used as a battery since the end of Edo period to the end of world war. The old sites such as the fort site, the brick barracks and stone walls have been preserved since then, and are designated as the historic site. Especially, the brick barracks were made by the unique way. Let’s have a walk and think of the long past. The walking guide tour is available but only in Japanese.
In July and August, the swimming beach is opened! There are BBQ facilities at beach, and they lend BBQ set, so you can just go there without preparing. There are some fishing spots and fishing is another popular leisure in Sarushima. Swimming, BBQing, and fishing -great way to spend summer day!
