Designing your own ramen… Is that even possible? Well, yes, you can! Located in Yokohama, a little bit south of Tokyo, CUPNOODLES MUSEUM offers you a great chance to learn about CUPNOODLES and to design your special cup of ramen.
Along with the history of CUPNOODLES, you can learn the philosophy of Momofuku Ando, who invented Chicken Ramen, the world’s first instant ramen, in 1958. You will be surprised with the exhibition of more than 3,000 products, including CUPNOODLES, having been developed from Chicken Ramen. Momofuku Ando repeated experiments in his little wooden laboratory for his invention. If you take a look at the inside of the replica of his laboratory at the museum, you will see no special utensils. It’s amazing that his invention came from an ordinary kitchen. A great idea and determination make everything possible.
How to Design Your Ramen
Make a reservation, pay extra 300 yen, and head to MY CUPNOODLES Factory section. Design the cup and place the noodles in it. Select your favorite soup from four flavors — normal, seafood, curry, or chili tomato. Then, you’ll get to choose four toppings from twelve. Have fun, but select carefully. Four options of soups and twelve options of toppings can make as many as 5,460 combinations!
How Did You Like It?
Instant ramen is now a part of our everyday life, but it was a miracle in 1958. Learn its great history, and enjoy getting lost in designing your special CUPNOODLES at the museum. It’ll be one of your greatest experiences in Japan!
